Alan was called to the Bar in 2010.
His main areas of practice include criminal regulatory, corporate and financial regulation, health and safety, and licensing.
Alan has developed a strategic and commercial approach in handling matters of different levels of complexity by providing strategic and practical advice to clients throughout the various stages of proceedings to protect their businesses, assets and reputations. He has significant experience advising and acting for individuals and corporate clients on a broad spectrum of regulatory issues.
Alan has represented principal contractors in investigations and prosecutions brought by the Environmental Protection Department, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Highways Department. These investigations and prosecutions stemmed from minor incidents resulting in no injury to fatal and other severe accidents in various settings, including large scale building sites, construction sites, and workplaces, many of which involved multiple summonses, complex technical issues, and expert evidence.
Alan advises financial institutions and regulated persons facing investigations by the Securities and Futures Commission.
Alan is also highly experienced in licensing and acts for some of Hong Kong’s largest F&B and nightlife operators on a broad range of legal matters. In particular, he appears before the Liquor Licensing Board concerning contentious applications for new licenses, amendments and renewals and, where necessary, appealing the LLB’s decisions at the Municipal Services Appeal Board. He also advises on and defends prosecutions for alleged breaches of licensing conditions.
Alan advises companies, business owners and directors on different aspects of business and commercial matters.
